Feeding program rolled out for NLC learners

Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte – All National Learning Camp (NLC) 2023 learners of Gigaquit National School of Home Industries (GNSHI) have benefited from the school’s feeding program in support of the learners’ daily attendance and participation in their respective camps.

The initiative, which was conceived during the conference of the GNSHI’s administrative staff headed by its school principal, Mrs. Marisol Moleta Galido, and the NLC teachers, primarily aims to sustain and improve the attendance of the learners.

“It is just like hitting two birds, in this case, three, with one stone. First, we are motivating learners’ daily attendance, second, we are providing nutritious snacks to them, and last, we are helping their parents financially because they don’t have to worry about their children’s snacks,” Mrs. Galido said.

Mrs. Galido also added that the school is planning to tap the stakeholders, particularly the School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA), for their engagement to boost and help the program’s implementation.

Served daily at 9:30 am, the snacks are prepared by the Craft Education Demonstrators (CED) and some non-teaching staff of the school.

“Since we have teachers who report on summer vacations, we asked them to prepare the snacks and they are more than willing to do it three times a week,” Mrs. Maria Linda D. Enario, the Head Teacher III of the Technical-Vocational Department said.

Through this program, GNSHI expects sustained daily attendance and active participation of learners so that they can maximize all the lessons and activities that are designed for them and their learning needs.

CLASSIC BINIGNIT WITH LOVE. NLC learners share their smiles as they take their cups filled with binignit prepared by the GNSHI teachers. Binignit is made of glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk with various slices of sabá bananas, cassava, and sweet potato, among other ingredients that make it a nutritious snack.
